IOTECH ALARM SERVICE
EDGE ALARM OVERVIEW
IOTech’s Edge Alarm Service helps industrial organizations monitor, manage and respond to alarms across diverse edge environments.
Its standards-based, technology-agnostic approach unifies alarm normalization, routing and control across different devices, protocols and operational technologies.
INDUSTRY STANDARDS
The Edge Alarm Service is built on OPC UA Alarms & Conditions and aligned with IEC 62682 and ISA 18.2. It supports industrial systems ranging from OT devices using BACnet and Modbus to PLCs, rules engines and analytics components.
Deploy it with IOTech Edge Central, integrate it with open-source EdgeX Foundry or embed it within custom frameworks.
Its event-driven architecture evaluates alarm data in real time, generating standardized alarm events that can be viewed and managed through a dedicated UI or comprehensive REST API.
API ACCESS
The REST API gives developers and integrators access to alarm data and operations:
Route critical alerts to the right systems or personnel, supporting timely responses and operational safety.
ALARM CONFIGURATION
Define alarms through configuration files or the REST API, from basic thresholds to advanced multi-level models such as “high-high” critical events.
Configure alarms using standard OPC UA alarm types:
Process alarm data from many independent concurrent sources, with an architecture designed to scale with your edge deployment.
Alarm threshold data can originate from:
A temperature value read from a Modbus device register.
A BACnet device generating its own alarm.
Rules engines or analytics triggering an alarm from multiple inputs.
A monitored device becoming unreachable.
SEE IT IN ACTION
IOTech provides a web-based interface for customers and operational teams that prefer to manage alarms without building their own tooling on top of the REST API.
Clear visualization, streamlined navigation and real-time interaction make alarm monitoring and management accessible to operators at all levels.
See how different alarm types and sources are defined, received and handled by the Alarm Service through the Edge Central UI.
