Easily control and read data from PROFINET devices using IOTech’s industrial-grade PROFINET device connector
What is PROFINET?
- PROFINET is one of the leading Industrial Ethernet technologies used in manufacturing with applications ranging from production automation, process automation and drives
- PROFINET is standardized in IEC 61158 and IEC 61784 and forms the communication backbone for Industrie 4.0 in automation technology
- The PROFINET device connector uses the Siemens’ protocol stack and proprietary hardware drivers to read/write data from/to IO devices on the PROFINET network. It runs as a 32-bit application and acts as a high-level controller on the user’s existing PROFINET network
- A user needs to use their engineering tool to define the updated system including the conector as the high-level controller and the data transfer areas corresponding to the devices to be read. This hardware configuration file is then passed to the IOTech device connector
IOTech's high-performance PROFINET device connector acts as an IO Controller, communicating with IO devices using PROFINET Real-Time (PN-RT)
The PROFINET device connector implements the following key features:
- Receive alarms
- Log alarms
- Read IO data
- Write IO data
The device connector can be configured to communicate with IO Devices in the following ways:
- Connected to an existing IO controller on the network, which is configured as an I-device. The IO controller transfers data from its IO devices to the device connector which transfers data to the IO controller to pass to its IO devices
- Directly connected to the IO devices
